The CEB is committed to undertaking the UKHP in a manner that cares for the natural and man made environment and contributes to the sustainable development of the region.
To ensure that this occurs and Environmental Policy for the project has been developed and an environmental management system (EMS) prepared.

In order to meet the objective and targets in the EMS and policy, the UKHP will be undertaking environmental monitoring of the project area and the impacts of the project on the local natural and man made environment. Environment Monitoring

Requirements for the environmental monitoring of the UKHP are set out in the National Environmental (Upper Kotmale Hydro-power Project – Monitoring) Regulations No 1 of 2003. (Click on the ‘gazette’ link on the home page to access a full copy of the regulations).

The UKHP Environmental policy also contains a commitment by CEB to meet and, where possible, exceed the requirements of all applicable legislation and regulations.
