Introduction
The Upper Kotmale Hydropower Project consists of five lots Lot 1 to5. Lot
2 – Main Civil Works is the largest lots out of the five lots of having
more than half of the project cost will be used to construct civil works.
Main Intake Dam
This consists of construction of River
Diversion Works, Intake Dam, Control Building, Land Reclamation Works and
Road and Bridge Works to be specified as follows.
- River Diversion Works; Design Flood is 200
m3/sec (2-year flood)
- Intake Dam; Concrete gravity dam of 35.5
m high and 180 m long with Spillway, Sand flush way, Outlet and Intake
- Control Building; 170 m2
- Land Reclamation Works; 64,500 m2 with slope
protection wall and box culvert
- River Bank Protection along right and left
banks of reservoir; 1.2 km
- Road Works; 4.0 m to 7.0 m wide roads of
total length of about 12 km with surface treatment
Waterways
This consists of construction of Headrace Tunnel,
Upstream Surge Tank, Shaft for Penstock, Draft Tunnel, Downstream Surge
Chamber, Tailrace Tunnel and Outlet to be specified as follows.
- Headrace Tunnel; circular shape, 4.5 m~5.2 m of
diameter with concrete lining/non-lining as required and 12,890 m long
- Upstream Surge Tank; restricted orifice type,
12.0 m of diameter with steel/concrete lining as required and 98 m high
- Underground inclined Shaft for Penstock; 4.5 m~1.45
m of diameter and 791 m long
- Draft Tunnel; circular shape, 3.0 m of diameter
with steel/concrete lining as required 78 m long
- Downstream Surge Chamber; restricted orifice type,
8.0 m of diameter with concrete lining and 58m high
- Tailrace Tunnel; circular shape, 4.5 m of diameter
with concrete lining and 459 m long
- Outlet; Sill elevation of EL.699 m and located
close to the upstream end of existing Kotmale Reservoir
Powerhouse Complex and Switchyard
This consists of construction of underground
powerhouse complex, Access Tunnel, Cable Tunnel and outdoor Switchyard
to be specified as follows.
- Powerhouse Complex; underground, 18.8 m wide,
36.5 m high and 66.3 m long
- Access Tunnel; Inverted ‘U’ shape, 5.0 m wide,
5.0 m high with concrete lining/non-lining as required and 451m long
- Cable Tunnel; Inverted ‘U’ shape, 4.0 m wide,
3.0 m high with concrete lining/non-lining as required and 469 m long
- Switchyard; Out door switchyard 36.5 m wide and
130 m long with control building.
Procurement and Construction Period
Sealed bids are being invited from prequalified eligible bidders for the construction and completion of Lot 2-Main Civil Works. Deadline line for submission of bids is 1000 h on September 20, 2006.
The construction period is 1613 days (53 months). It is expected that the Lot 2 – Main Civil Works would commence by February 2007 and completed in the third quarter of 2011. |
